Food2Kids

Food2kids is a program Master’s Table started to help address food insecurity in the Ansonia school system. We provide bags of nonperishable food so that the students in the program will have food to eat while they are at home on the weekend. Food insecurity in CT is a widespread problem with 14.4% of the population being affected. We currently support 40 students in the Ansonia School District.

This program began in 2022 and started with 12 students. We are proud that we have since increased that number to 40. Our mission is to support students who have limited or no resources when they are away from school.

A bag of food costs $10.00 per student per week, $40.00 per month and $400.00 per year. We accept donations for this program, both monetary or direct purchases of food. Click here to go to our Amazon Wish List where approved foods and the amounts needed are listed.

To get the bags of food ready for the students to take home, Master’s Table holds packing parties approximately once a month during the school year. Are you interested in helping? Fill out our volunteer form.

Ansonia grammar school principals identify which kids are in need of this program, and are responsible for distribution. As the program recipients are minors, their privacy is paramount, and Master’s Table is not made aware of or involved in choosing who receives this aid. As our funding increases, we can increase the number of kids receiving aid. This fall we will be providing for 40 kids a week. We increase the program slowly but surely, as maintaining consistent funding is important to ensure everyone receives their food each week.

How Can I Help?

Food Donation

We accept donations of food to the program, although there are restrictions on what kind of food we are allowed to use. All food must be non-perishable, and nut free.

Financial Donation

Financial donations can be used by Master’s Table to buy food and support more kids. If you make a donation through the website which you want earmarked specifically for Food2Kids, please email masterstablect@gmail.com to let us know.

Volunteering

Our volunteers make this entire process possible.

Our most experienced volunteers shop for the food and arrange the time for packing events.

Volunteers who come to help pack first unpack all the food and set up the assembly line. After it’s set up, everyone follows the assembly line and packs until we hit the number of packs needed. The packing parties are a simple way to donate a couple hours of your time and labor to make a big difference!
