Volunteer Responsibilities

All volunteers have the same responsibilities on arrival: signing in and out in the volunteer logbook and wearing a name tag, which must be returned at the end of their shift. We ask that all volunteers arrive with a positive attitude, a smile, and a willingness to help wherever needed. No prior experience is necessary—just a readiness to serve.

Meal Prep

Volunteers play a vital role in preparing for meal service. Before the food is ready, the kitchen provides the number of meals to be served, and volunteers must set out the appropriate number of containers and bags. Flyers need to be folded, and donated clothing and housewares should be neatly arranged. If flowers are available, they should be divided into bouquets.
Once the food is prepared, it is distributed into containers. All volunteers handling food must wear gloves and a hat or hairnet to ensure hygiene. After the containers are filled, volunteers form an assembly line to pack the bags.
Before the meal begins, the prep area must be cleaned—this includes wiping down tables, washing and drying all cooking utensils, breaking down boxes, and taking out garbage and recycling. Just a few minutes prior to meal service, each volunteer is assigned a station to manage during the meal. Before serving begins, all volunteers gather for a group prayer.

Parking Lot

Effective organization is essential to maintaining order during both indoor and drive-up meal distribution, particularly in the parking lot. Typically, three volunteers are stationed outside: one to direct traffic, another to manage the car lineup, and a third to control the flow of vehicles to the distribution point.
Before meal service begins, a table should be set up outside to hold meals and any additional items. Two volunteers are assigned to walk through the parking area greeting the guests and distributing their meal tickets to them..

Volunteering Credo

Our Volunteers make a difference in the lives of those that we serve. Whether cooking a meal, organizing our clothing closet or getting the word out; they are how Master’s Table makes our mission come alive.

The philosophy of Master’s Table mandates fair, honest, courteous and equitable treatment of all guests and volunteers. The privacy of each individual must be respected. This is to ensure that each person leaves with all the dignity and pride in his or her uniqueness that they deserve.

The individuals and families served by Master’s Table are a diverse population with a wide variety of backgrounds and circumstances. While volunteering with us, you may see or hear something that seems out of line with your perception of a “typical” guest. It is important for each of us to always remember that appearances can be quite deceiving. While it is a natural response to form an opinion about a person based on their outward appearance, we in fact know very little about our guests’ financial status and living situation. As such, all who request our help will receive it equally and without prejudice or judgment. Additionally, the people we serve will, at all times, be treated with dignity and respect. No volunteer will make negative or derogatory comments about any of our guests. We will respect our guests’ right to privacy by never discussing them in the community at large.

Our mission is to feed all who are hungry. We do so willingly and with compassion and understanding.

How can my business help?

There are several ways that businesses can support Master’s Table:

  1. Become a sponsor! You can set up a donor matching opportunity. We have also received sponsorships from businesses in honor of employees as well.
  2. You can also donate to sponsor items that are not food that we use in our meals, such as containers or bags. If you sponsor a product, we can place your business name on the product to
    advertise the partnership.
  3. If you are a restaurant or food distribution business, you can support our meals by donating a food item for our dinners.

Will Master’s Table come to my business and present their charity to my employees?

Yes Master’s table would be happy to come present this charity at your business and to provide a list of nonperishable items that can be collected for us.
